The Buckwheat Boyz., most famous for the "Peanut Butter Jelly Time" song, are infecting eardrums everywhere again with the annoyingly catchy "Ice Cream & Cake" song. I cannot watch TV anymore without hearing it thanks to a recent Baskin-Robbins ad.

The Buckwheat Boyz, and more importantly, BASKIN-ROBBINS is to blame -- NOT my beloved Carvel.

Here's the commercial, via YouTube. I present this here at my LJ for educational purposes only, so watch at your own risk!

<lj-embed id="65" />

In contrast, here's an AWESOME Ice Cream Cake commercial.

<lj-embed id="66" />

</PSA>

*in gruff Tom Carvel voice* Thank you.

Clarification: I was out last weekend in a car full of people, several of them drunk. One gal, Alice, began to sing "Ice cream and cake! Do the ice cream and cake!" and then said, "You know, from that Carvel commercial?" Thankfully, I hadn't been drinking Jose Cuervo, because to me, them's were fightin' words! I have had an "Ice Cream & Cake" earworm since the first time I saw that Baskin-Robbins commercial, and with God as my witness, I will never let another living soul make the mistake of calling such a heinous advert Carvel's ever again!

    <lj:music>The All-American Rejects - Move Along</lj:music>

I can't believe there are only 2 episodes left of my beloved Battlestar Galactica! What the hell am I going to obsess about next, real life? Ew!

I called out sick today because I'm feeling under the weather enough to where I'll end up punching a senior for irritating me. I'm groggy, snotty and irritable. Well, I'm not that cranky, I just know that if I go to work, I will be. I slept well, but I'm still very tired. I guess it's another jammie day for me. Damn, I've worn pajamas 3 days in a row (not the same set, mind you).

I bought my Ben Folds tickets today :). I am so excited! It's been a few years since I've seen him live and I'm stoked that he's going to the House of Blues in A.C. Duck and I decided to get GA/floor "seats" so that we can waltz to the bar easily. Hopefully, I can get piano side again. I can hardly wait to sing my heart out, literally -- kidding -- I'd like to keep the cardiac muscles in my chest, TYVM. Don't get me started on the misuses of the word "literally". I know that I've committed some heinous grammatical crimes in my day (hell, I can't even stay on the same subject in this paragraph), but when people add "literally" to enhance their statements, it irritates the shit out of me. No, not literally :p

Jeebus, I'm surfing internet radio and there's suckage on every station. MEH!! No Doubt, Good Charlotte, Backstreet Boys, Bile. All-American Rejects it is, then. Jenny's parody version of this song is "Mow the Lawn" and it cracks me up.

Are ya gonna keep it long?
Mow the lawn, mow the lawn
Like ya know ya do

Oh Geeze, New Found Glory is on now. *Switch* Oooh! No Diggity! Mmm-mmmmm. I like the way ya work it, no diggity. Hey yo, hey yo, hey yo, hey yoooooo!

Can you imagine me with f'n twitter? I'd be punching random lyrics in every 2 seconds, followed by "OMGs, BSG frakkin rocks!"-ing. It's hard enough for me to keep up with the "current music" option here because I switch so often and type so sporadicly.

Can you tell I'm taking cold medicine? Wait, am I always this goofy?

K, I am going to answer my interview questions from, like, a month ago. These come from thejadedstar. You know the drill. I'd also be happy to take more questions 'cause Lord only knows I need some focus right now!

1. What is the most surprising thing you've had to deal with since becoming a mother?
Just being on the other side of the mother/daughter thing is a shocker. There are so many things I do that mimic my mother and oldest sister (who was a co-mother, seriously) when I'm dishing out the discipline. This is a common realization, I know.

2. For you, what has been a key factor in keeping your marriage thriving?
Aside from love and friendship? Well, we do try to have at least one day off together. We still enjoy each other's company (right, Duck? ;) I don't understand when other women, particularly the married ones, bitch about their S.O.'s. I'm beginning to think that LUCK is the key factor. I'm probably taking the great sex for granted here, though...;)

3. What is your all time favorite song?
Smashing Pumpkins - Drown

<lj-embed id="63" />

I love the dreamy vocals and the fuzzy guitar. The bass line & soft drums make me feel like I'm floating. I don't even understand what this song means, I just adore the way the music makes me feel. On top of the actual song itself, there are tons of memories conjured up when I hear it/think of it.

4. In that same vein, what is your most memorable concert experience?

Lollapalooza 1993 (Excerpt from this entry)

Lollapalooza '93. It was a hot, humid day in Philly at JFK field. Water and clothes were scarce. It was my first big concert fest, and I was loving every minute of it. I walked around the site in my sports bra, excited to be there. When our group split up, Duck and I paired off as we naturally did. He stood behind me in the crowd, kept a hold on me so that we didn't lose each other. Then came the epiphany: Dinosaur Jr. was on stage, and the crowd went ballistic. Everyone was jumping up and down in unison. Duck was behind me, jumping along to the song "Start Choppin‘," and -- I don't know -- everything seemed right with the world.

What a fine show, it was. Primus (headliners), Alice in Chains, Dinosaur Jr., Fishbone, Tool, and a silent, naked Rage Against the Machine were there. It was hot as hell and I was hot as hell -- Oh, to have that teenage body again...anyhow, the show in and of itself was fabulous, especially Primus. I remember being fascinated by watching Les Claypool play.

<lj-embed id="64" />

5. And I hate to do it, yet I don't. What is your favorite memory of Lena? I'm sorry if this is a touchy subject, but, I loved her so.
It's the little things, really. I miss answering the phone and hearing her say, "Spleen?" (to which I would reply, "Splena!!!":) I remember the times jenniferever76 would drive me to Wildwood and we'd go to the Fun Shop on the boardwalk together, me pushing baby Jenny (who's now 14!) in the stroller. There was a party at my house, once, where Lena drank too much cheap vodka and decided she was married to the bottle of Kasser's...heh, I don't know I'd call that one of my favorite memories. I feel almost ashamed that I don't have a long, detailed Lena story to share, like I'm not doing such an awesome person justice by simply sharing random memories and inside jokes we had together. I miss her, dearly. I want to make more fond memories with her, it just isn't fucking fair.

I was disappointed that I couldn't make it to the Valentine's Day Philly show and didn't really want to hike all the way up to Montclair, so I crossed my fingers for a third chance. Low and behold, I got my wish! A.C. is fucking perfect because it's, like, 45 minutes away from me. I lovelovelove the HOB, too ('tis way better than the Borgata). Folds has been doing meet & greets for fan club members lately, so that makes me extra stoked.

My only dilemma -- Duck works on Fridays. Send me good vibes, people!

P.S.
Thank you, higher powers, for giving me a fantabulous, work-free, tattoo-getting, tasty day. Holy Moses, did I ever need it!

My appointment with Tim was at 1, so I spent a good 2 hours and change reminiscing about the 90s and trading "where are they nows" while getting my right bicep bloody and inky. I think I may have him give me a Crow T. Robot on my right outer ankle in a month or so. I am very pleased with the work and I'm especially happy about the cost. I also got some free stickers out of it for Bob. Bob's my 7-11 acquired cooler. He's a big, black cylinder covered in stickers and labels. Sometimes he holds ice, beer and malt liquor. Currently, he's full of junk mail.

After the kids got their homework done, we ran some errands and then had dinner at the Chinese buffet. Duck pulled an all-nighter yesterday, so he hit the sack pretty early. After I uploaded my tattoo pics, I watched the pilot episodes of Lost, which I enjoyed very much. I don't see myself turning into a superfan, but it will be a nice go-to show when my beloved Battlestar Galactica ends. *sniff*

Oh, good -- I think I'm ready to go to sleep now. *yawn* Night-night, internet.

And just because...

<lj-embed id="60" />

He also has a fabulous singing voice and a terrific sense of humor. <lj:music>Smashing Pumpkins "Landslide"</lj:music>

I am loving my 4-day birthday weekend! Right now I'm relaxing in my favorite pajamas (they're flannel, sea green in color and have martini glasses all over them) and listening to Smashing Pumpkins. Life is grand...GRAND I say!

My darling duckalmighty has to work on Saturday, so last night was my birthday "observed" ;). Duck & the girls bought me a bunch of pistachios and soy & wasabi almonds, Lindt chocolate truffles, The Dark Knight on DVD and a gift certificate to one of the local tattoo parlors, where our old friend Tim works. I treated myself to a WinDVD upgrade so that I can create gnarly animated icons again. It also came in handy today by allowing me to screen cap a great picture of Beaky Buzzard, which I photoshopped soon thereafter so that I have something to present to Tim when I'm ready to be his drawing pad.

A little back story: My father died of Emphysema with heart and liver complications in the fall of 1996. His nickname for me (and I still don't know why, lol) for as long as I can remember was Turkey Buzzard. We used to watch TV together, mostly cartoons like The Smurfs and Looney Tunes. I have always adored Beaky Buzzard, so I thought it would be really cool to have him permanently inked on me. My Dad had a small, simple home made tattoo on his arm of a kite, which apparently was done while he served in the Navy (and was FUBARed!). I've been toying with different concepts of Beaky and thought about getting him flying on the air carrying a banner, an "in memory of" sort of thing, but I could never come up with anything I really liked. I also thought about having Beaky standing there with his cute little dopey face with maybe a cactus or something in the background just to add some color and scenery to it. Today, I think I finally hit the nail on the head:

What do you think, sirs? I want elu_delsin's opinion, especially, because he and I grew up together in our earlier years, and he loved my dad/his "Grandpa I" as much as I did. Just looking at this picture gives me the warm fuzzies, so I have a feeling he'll like it a lot, too. I think I'm going to have it done on my right upper arm, but I'm hesitant because of my weight. It seems like the best place for it.

While I'm at the parlor, I'm going to price the other work I've been wanting:
and , one on each shoulder blade. If you aren't familiar with those sketches, they're from Smashing Pumpkins' Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness. I've always loved the artwork from that album, and they are small and subtle enough to work as conversational pieces and fan appreciation.

Speaking of MCIS...

<lj-embed id="51" />

Speak to me in a language I can hear
Humor me before I have to go
Deep in thought I forgive everyone
As the cluttered streets greet me once again
I know I can't be late, supper's waiting on the table
Tomorrow's just an excuse away
So I pull my collar up and face the cold, on my own
The earth laughs beneath my heavy feet
At the blasphemy in my old jangly walk
Steeple guide me to my heart and home
The sun is out and up and down again
I know I'll make it, love can last forever
Graceful swans of never topple to the earth
And you can make it last, forever you
You can make it last, forever you
And for a moment I lose myself
Wrapped up in the pleasures of the world
I've journeyed here and there and back again
But in the same old haunts I still find my friends
Mysteries not ready to reveal
Sympathies I'm ready to return
I'll make the effort, love can last forever
Graceful swans of never topple to the earth
Tomorrow's just an excuse
And you can make it last, forever you
You can make it last, forever you

    <lj:music>The Hold Steady - Party Pit</lj:music>

This year, I resolve to solve my drinking problem, but I can't do it alone.

See, I'm tired of being the wallflower that sips the same Corona for 3 hours. I don't want to spend my Friday nights on the NJ Transit back and fourth to Wal*mart and Starbucks just to get out of the house. I want to make up for my sober twenties and hopefully over one weekend. To celebrate my 33rd birthday, I would like to consume mass quantities of alcohol and hang out with friends. Starting January 23rd, my birthday eve, I'm going to get liquored up at the bar and go out to my favorite cheesy Wildwood club with my drinking buddy Trish, and whoever I can actually talk into going out dancing. On the 24th, my birthday actual, I'd like celebrate in a more low-key setting at home for some beer, malt liquor, and ice cream cake. Sunday night I plan to hang back on the couch and watch Battlestar Galactica ALL DAY.

Yes, I know I'm not clever ;)

I have been such an LJ slacker. There's another New Year's resolution that shouldn't be difficult to keep -- I need to blah-blog here more, even if only for the sake of posterity. I can't say there's been a whole lot to record. I'm still a frazzled Geriatric Nurse, but it still pays off in different ways. As a matter of fact, I just got an excellent evaluation for my 5th year at the NCC. I'll be getting a sweet 5% raise for my efforts, too, which is awesome. I still don't love my job, but it isn't a Pink Floyd "Wish You Were Here" lyric, if you know what I mean. Heh, I'm not totally sure *I* know what I mean, lol.

The kids are terrific. I'll have to post some more pictures in the near future. For now, I must leave you -- it's almost time for w--k. No time for edit love, Dr. Jones!

DUDE. I think I need these Chucks:

Too bad they cost almost 90 bucks. I wonder if I could buy a black pair and sequin them myself? LOL, that sounds like a recipe for disaster.

Instead, I purchased a more affordable pair:

I also bought a new t-shirt, because I'm a frivolous kind of geek:

I saw a crocheted mandala hat in several places online, which is equally cool. What I really want to do is make an Eye of Jupiter tie-dye shirt - that would be frakkin' sweet.

~+~

The Hold Steady/Drive-by Truckers show was fun. I especially enjoyed THS's set, which was energizing, tight and fun. Their fans are a passionate bunch, let me tell ya. They were handing out handfuls of confetti to throw and seem to all know one another from previous shows and message boards. Duck said that from where he was standing it looked like the crowd had certain gestures and actions in sync with songs & lyrics, reminiscent of Rocky Horror Picture Show audience participation. Curious, I went to their online forums today and saw that many of them travel to different shows across the U.S, night after night. That's fucking dedicated. You may want to point out to me that they sound an awful lot like Deadheads, but here's the difference: The Grateful Dead are highly overrated and their followers seem more like nomads than fans to me. Blechhh, I hate the Dead, so I admit that there may be some bias to my opinion there.

Anyhow, a fantastic performance by the Hold Steady. I don't listen to them nearly enough and I'm about to rectify that.

As for DBT -- meh. There were hits & misses in their set. I've seen them twice before and last night's performance was at the bottom. I'm sure it didn't help that mid-set my feet and knees were reminding me that I am not as young and fit as I used to be. I'm very happy that I had the foresight to take off the entire weekend, because I really did need today to recover.

I think I'm gonna go join Duck in the living room and heat up some leftover Chinese food.

    <lj:music>Night of the Living Dead playing in the living room</lj:music>

I just had a 6 year old threaten to pull down my underwear...and all I could do was laugh hysterically!! It must be the joker makeup...

I'm in my room typing right now because I ran out of candy in less then an hour. We bought something like 5 bags of candy, two of them were BigMcLargeHuge, plus I gave out nearly 2 cases of fun size Doritos. I'm kind of bummed, but in a way it was cool because there was a great turnout this year. Aside from the "smell my feet" song, I had several youngsters ask me, "Why so serioussss?!" and only scared two little shy kids. I'm having so much fun, and the night is still young!

The makeup came along a lot better than I thought. My hair is neon frickin' green, but what can I do? No one had a swampy green color, not even on the internet. It's still pretty bad ass, though, I must say. I don't even have my costume on yet and I look cool. Right now I'm hanging out in the bedroom in jeans and an Evil Dead shirt, anxiously awaiting my the girls' return from Trick or Treating. Jenny didn't dress up, but has a green streak in her hair. Natalie is dressed as a devil, but it's girly -- long red velvety vampress looking gown with sequin trim and sequined horn & pitchfork to match. Fret not, long time friends & readers, there will be pics up this weekend.

I came up with a last minute costume for duckalmighty, but I don't have the means to purchase it. All I need is a black hoodie, black ski mask or bag and some white paint. I won't give it away in case I can pull it off, because it would be incredibly awesome. I wonder what time Wally World is open til...

I don't have my glasses on. Ouch. I should throw on my old pair for now, though I'm fairly confident the grease makeup and hair color will watch right off the lenses.

Happy Halloween again, everybody!
