The Buckwheat Boyz., most famous for the "Peanut Butter Jelly Time" song, are infecting eardrums everywhere again with the annoyingly catchy "Ice Cream & Cake" song. I cannot watch TV anymore without hearing it thanks to a recent Baskin-Robbins ad.

The Buckwheat Boyz, and more importantly, BASKIN-ROBBINS is to blame -- NOT my beloved Carvel.

Here's the commercial, via YouTube. I present this here at my LJ for educational purposes only, so watch at your own risk!

In contrast, here's an AWESOME Ice Cream Cake commercial.

</PSA>

*in gruff Tom Carvel voice* Thank you.

Clarification: I was out last weekend in a car full of people, several of them drunk. One gal, Alice, began to sing "Ice cream and cake! Do the ice cream and cake!" and then said, "You know, from that Carvel commercial?" Thankfully, I hadn't been drinking Jose Cuervo, because to me, them's were fightin' words! I have had an "Ice Cream & Cake" earworm since the first time I saw that Baskin-Robbins commercial, and with God as my witness, I will never let another living soul make the mistake of calling such a heinous advert Carvel's ever again!

OH HAI

mood: half-asleep
music: Ben Folds Five - Lullabye

I have tried for several weeks to sit down and post, to no avail. I'm fairly certain that most of you know I'm a Facebooking freak lately. I play with my imaginary frog Floyd and astound my coworkers with my Bejeweld Blitz scores ([info]damnitnicole and [info]jr0124 are way better, though...frakkers!) and update from my tracfone when I'm really, really bored or really, really drunk.

It's after 5am and there are birds chirping outside -- why the hell did I attempt to update my LJ now?

When I'm wide awake and wordy, here are some things I could write about:

  • BSG finale

  • wedding anniversary this weekend

  • The Romeo's Pizza incident and my divorce from all things Apple Pucker and Vodka

  • Ben Folds show in A.C,

  • dancing with Trish

  • How awesome it is to see Dennis playing on stage

  • How awesome The Hold Steady are

  • How awesome my kitchen is becoming

  • How awesome [info]duckalmighty is

  • How awesome Jennifer & Natalie are

  • Ginger Cognac

“File this under "my daughters are cooler than you": Natalie was surfing through the radio stations, as she often does and I can tell ya sometimes I'm a little disappointed because sometime she listens to Top 40, not that I haven't been caught doing it myself, but, she's flipping through the channels and passes by classic rock and Ozzy "Over the Mountain" was on and for whatever reason they (Jennifer & Natalie) stopped at that freaking Tattoo song - gosh, Who does that (song)? Anyway, you know, 'Just like a tattoo...' -- I hate that fuckin' song. Anyway, so I looked at Natalie and said, "WHY would you turn off Ozzy for this?!" Her response was playing air guitar and singing "I don't know!" and then she put it back on. That was brilliant. Very proud of her now. Bye!”

Whaddaya hear, Starbuck?

mood: antsy

I'm ready to get my geek on. Full on. I've got 4 bottles of Flathead Lake Monster Granny Apple soda, vodka and tissues ready for tonight's 2 hour (plus 11 minutes!) series finale of Battlestar Galactica. I don't have any detailed predictions, but I expect a blaze of glory and nothing short of awesome.

To commemorate the last episode, here are my crazy Peanuts/Galactica icon smash-ups for your viewing pleasure. Feel free to take!

I'm going to watch the Galactica marathon on SciFi and clean the frak out of the house now. I need to keep busy -- I can hardly wait for 10 o'clock!

There's a hole in the bucket, dear Liza, dear Liza

mood: sick and loopy and reminiscent
music: The All-American Rejects - Move Along

I can't believe there are only 2 episodes left of my beloved Battlestar Galactica! What the hell am I going to obsess about next, real life? Ew!

I called out sick today because I'm feeling under the weather enough to where I'll end up punching a senior for irritating me. I'm groggy, snotty and irritable. Well, I'm not that cranky, I just know that if I go to work, I will be. I slept well, but I'm still very tired. I guess it's another jammie day for me. Damn, I've worn pajamas 3 days in a row (not the same set, mind you).

I bought my Ben Folds tickets today :). I am so excited! It's been a few years since I've seen him live and I'm stoked that he's going to the House of Blues in A.C. duckalmightyDuck and I decided to get GA/floor "seats" so that we can waltz to the bar easily. Hopefully, I can get piano side again. I can hardly wait to sing my heart out, literally -- kidding -- I'd like to keep the cardiac muscles in my chest, TYVM. Don't get me started on the misuses of the word "literally". I know that I've committed some heinous grammatical crimes in my day (hell, I can't even stay on the same subject in this paragraph), but when people add "literally" to enhance their statements, it irritates the shit out of me. No, not literally :p

Jeebus, I'm surfing internet radio and there's suckage on every station. MEH!! No Doubt, Good Charlotte, Backstreet Boys, Bile. All-American Rejects it is, then. Jenny's parody version of this song is "Mow the Lawn" and it cracks me up.

Are ya gonna keep it long?
Mow the lawn, mow the lawn
Like ya know ya do

Oh Geeze, New Found Glory is on now. *Switch* Oooh! No Diggity! Mmm-mmmmm. I like the way ya work it, no diggity. Hey yo, hey yo, hey yo, hey yoooooo!

Can you imagine me with f'n twitter? I'd be punching random lyrics in every 2 seconds, followed by "OMGs, BSG frakkin rocks!"-ing. It's hard enough for me to keep up with the "current music" option here because I switch so often and type so sporadicly.

Can you tell I'm taking cold medicine? Wait, am I always this goofy?

K, I am going to answer my interview questions from, like, a month ago. These come from [info]thejadedstar. You know the drill. I'd also be happy to take more questions 'cause Lord only knows I need some focus right now!

OMGs, do you Other Jersey folks know who's at Chiller this spring? Luciana Carro (Capt.Louanne 'Kat' Katraine), Edward James Olmos AND Micky Dolenz!

I don't forsee [info]duckalmighty getting the whole weekend off and we already have plans for the following Friday, but I wanted to share that tidbit of info for those of you who can attend. Tell Adama and Micky I said "Hi!!" :)

Ben Folds 4/24/09 - House of Blues, Atlantic City, NJ. Tickets go on sale 3/7. SQUEE!!!

My dear [info]jenniferever76  gave me a Ticketmaster gift card for my 33rd birthday last January and I've been dying to use it. I was disappointed that I  couldn't make it to the Valentine's Day Philly show and didn't really want to hike all the way up to Montclair, so I crossed my fingers for a third chance. Low and behold, I got my wish! A.C. is fucking perfect because it's, like, 45 minutes away from me. I lovelovelove the HOB, too ('tis way better than the Borgata). Folds has been doing meet &  greets for fan club members lately, so that makes me extra stoked.

My only dilemma -- Duck works on Fridays. Send me good vibes, people!

P.S. Here's my very favorite Ben Folds song from the recent BF5 reunion:

Today was a good day

mood: grateful
music: Army Of Freshmen - Road Less Traveled

Thank you, higher powers, for giving me a fantabulous, work-free, tattoo-getting, tasty day. Holy Moses, did I ever need it!

My appointment with Tim was at 1, so I spent a good 2 hours and change reminiscing about the 90s and trading "where are they nows" while getting my right bicep bloody and inky. I think I may have him give me a Crow T. Robot on my right outer ankle in a month or so. I am very pleased with the work and I'm especially happy about the cost. I also got some free stickers out of it for Bob. Bob's my 7-11 acquired cooler. He's a big, black cylinder covered in stickers and labels. Sometimes he holds ice, beer and malt liquor. Currently, he's full of junk mail.

After the kids got their homework done, we ran some errands and then had dinner at the Chinese buffet. duckalmightyDuck pulled an all-nighter yesterday, so he hit the sack pretty early. After I uploaded my tattoo pics, I watched the pilot episodes of Lost, which I enjoyed very much. I don't see myself turning into a superfan, but it will be a nice go-to show when my beloved Battlestar Galactica ends. *sniff*

Oh, good -- I think I'm ready to go to sleep now. *yawn* Night-night, internet.

And just because...

mood: squee

I'm going to get my Beaky Buzzard tattoo today! My appointment is at 3pm. I'm both nervous and excited. I can't even remember when I got my first tattoo (see user pic), but I know Pantera were still together, Ozzy was still cool and Mystery Science Theater 3000 was still on the air. It'll be so cool to have my old friend Tim do the inking, too. I  can hardly wait!

I  took an extra day off this week, so I don't have to go back to work until Sunday. Woohoo! My pal Beancy will be in town, so we're going out for some Twisted Tea & Appletinis. Blond Brigade high jinks are abound. Herrrhroooooooo!!!*

I have to go whoosh and straighten my hair. It's almost time!

*bounces off*

*It's a drunken war cry of sorts. Go bar hopping in Wildwood with me for the full effect.

Still bitter?

mood: busy

I was too rushed yesterday to include Ben Folds anti-Valentine's songs to my video list. This just doesn't sit well with me, so I'm posting media again. I'm still sad that [info]duckalmighty and I had to work last night instead of seeing Mr. Folds live in Philly.

Yes, most of these are NSFW because of language.

Ben Folds Five - Song for the Dumped )

Ben Folds - Landed (Monkey version because Vh1 version has embedding restrctions )

Ben Folds - Gone & Ben Folds - The Last Polka )

Ben Folds - Bitches Ain't Shit (**Extremely NSFW!**) )

Time to get ready for w--k again. Meh. I need a vacation, and soon.

Guns N' Roses - I Used to Love Her... )

I'm rushing off to work. Leave me some more heartache & break, OK?

There's too much confusion, I can't get no relief

mood: Dunefused

I am having Dune-fusion* over tonight's episode of Backstory Battlestar Galactica. I think I get it, but then when I try to think about it, it gets all fuzzy and I have to figure out the steps and the time line all over again. This happened to me a lot during Algebra class, too. Usually, I go over to [info]battlestar_blog just to squee with the other fans and get everyone's take on what's what. Tonight, I need to make sure I understand what's what! I still <3 my show, though.

*Dune-fu·sion - (dn-fyzhn) - n. 1.) The state of being perplexed and disoriented after watching David Lynch's
                                                           film adaptation of Dune.

You say it's your birthday, well, it's my birthday too, yeah

mood: cold
music: Powerpuff Girls - Love Makes the World Go 'round

I didn't get a chance to log on yesterday, so I'd like to wish my birthday-sharer [info]jr0124 a happy one!

I had a good time last night. [info]lilyroach showed up with a cake, a card and some scratch-offs (hey, I won 8 bucks!). [info]jenniferever76 brought Jenn/Lady/"the original JB" with her and gave me a Ticketmaster gift card, which was flippin' sweet. [info]nagle_speaks left work early to stop by and hung out until 2am. It was great seeing everyone, and I really mean that.

This morning-noon, while I was perusing the Ticketmaster listings (Ben Folds, PLEASE come to A.C. There's no way [info]duckalmighty and I will be off together on a Saturday, especially not Valentine's Day!), Natalie came in the room holding a bowl of Fruity Pebbles in her hands and said, "I know it's not Mother's Day, but I made you some breakfast." I gave her a big squeeze and thanked her. What a cutie...

I'm off work again today. I should hop in the shower and conquer the laundry monster, maybe watch the Dark Knight, some Kids in the Hall episodes, and maybe some BSG.

It's been a good weekend.

Who (or what) is your favorite fictional robot?

View 500 Answers

Tom Servo is not only my favorite, he is the BESTEST ROBOT EVER. So what if his arms don't work? Servo has an awesome hover skirt and a fancy head that can carry gumballs, or or or he can fill it up with water, glitter and a sled for a snow globe effect. He also has a fabulous singing voice and a terrific sense of humor. He can totally kick your ass at a game oh Dog & Bear, too.

(Now, if they were asking about the sexiest robot, it'd be a toss up between #6 and Anders ;)

I know I'll make it, love can last forever

mood: happy
music: Smashing Pumpkins "Landslide"

I am loving my 4-day birthday weekend! Right now I'm relaxing in my favorite pajamas (they're flannel, sea green in color and have martini glasses all over them) and listening to Smashing Pumpkins. Life is grand...GRAND I say!

My darling [info]duckalmighty has to work on Saturday, so last night was my birthday "observed" ;). Duck & the girls bought me a bunch of pistachios and soy & wasabi almonds, Lindt chocolate truffles, The Dark Knight on DVD and a gift certificate to one of the local tattoo parlors, where our old friend Tim works. I treated myself to a WinDVD upgrade so that I can create gnarly animated icons again. It also came in handy today by allowing me to screen cap a great picture of Beaky Buzzard, which I photoshopped soon thereafter so that I have something to present to Tim when I'm ready to be his drawing pad.

A little back story: My father died of Emphysema with heart and liver complications in the fall of 1996. His nickname for me (and I still don't know why, lol) for as long as I can remember was Turkey Buzzard. We used to watch TV together, mostly cartoons like The Smurfs and Looney Tunes. I have always adored Beaky Buzzard, so I thought it would be really cool to have him permanently inked on me. My Dad had a small, simple home made tattoo on his arm of a kite, which apparently was done while he served in the Navy (and was FUBARed!). I've been toying with different concepts of Beaky and thought about getting him flying on the air carrying a banner, an "in memory of" sort of thing, but I could never come up with anything I really liked. I also thought about having Beaky standing there with his cute little dopey face with maybe a cactus or something in the background just to add some color and scenery to it. Today, I think I finally hit the nail on the head:

tattoo concept under the cut )

What do you think, sirs? I want [info]elu_delsin's opinion, especially, because he and I grew up together in our earlier years, and he loved my dad/his "Grandpa I" as much as I did. Just looking at this picture gives me the warm fuzzies, so I have a feeling he'll like it a lot, too. I think I'm going to have it done on my right upper arm, but I'm hesitant because of my weight. It seems like the best place for it.

While I'm at the parlor, I'm going to price the other work I've been wanting:
and , one on each shoulder blade. If you aren't familiar with those sketches, they're from Smashing Pumpkins' Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness. I've always loved the artwork from that album, and they are small and subtle enough to work as conversational pieces and fan appreciation.

Speaking of MCIS...

I get by with a little help from my friends

mood: sick
music: The Hold Steady - Party Pit

This year, I resolve to solve my drinking problem, but I can't do it alone.

See, I'm tired of being the wallflower that sips the same Corona for 3 hours. I don't want to spend my Friday nights on the NJ Transit back and fourth to Wal*mart and Starbucks just to get out of the house. I want to make up for my sober twenties and hopefully over one weekend. To celebrate my 33rd birthday, I would like to consume mass quantities of alcohol and hang out with friends. Starting January 23rd, my birthday eve, I'm going to get liquored up at the bar and go out to my favorite cheesy Wildwood club with my drinking buddy Trish, and whoever I can actually talk into going out dancing. On the 24th, my birthday actual, I'd like celebrate in a more low-key setting at home for some beer, malt liquor, and ice cream cake. Sunday night I plan to hang back on the couch and watch Battlestar Galactica ALL DAY.

Yes, I know I'm not clever ;)

I have been such an LJ slacker. There's another New Year's resolution that shouldn't be difficult to keep -- I need to blah-blog here more, even if only for the sake of posterity. I can't say there's been a whole lot to record. I'm still a frazzled Geriatric Nurse, but it still pays off in different ways. As a matter of fact, I just got an excellent evaluation for my 5th year at the NCC. I'll be getting a sweet 5% raise for my efforts, too, which is awesome. I still don't love my job, but it isn't a Pink Floyd "Wish You Were Here" lyric, if you know what I mean. Heh, I'm not totally sure *I* know what I mean, lol.

The kids are terrific. I'll have to post some more pictures in the near future. For now, I must leave you -- it's almost time for w--k. No time for edit love, Dr. Jones!
